If you’re on the lookout for the best spot to enjoy Tempura NYC, one restaurant stands out above the rest: Tempura Matsui, located at 511 9th Ave, New York, NY 10018. This restaurant offers a refined and authentic tempura experience that perfectly captures the delicate art of Japanese frying.

Tempura Matsui has been a favorite among both locals and tourists, and it's easy to see why. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted by the warm ambiance and the delicious smells of frying seafood and vegetables. The focus here is on fresh, high-quality ingredients, with everything from shrimp to seasonal vegetables being battered and fried to perfection. The cooking technique is an art form, and it’s clear that the chefs at Tempura Matsui take their craft seriously. Each piece is light, crispy, and flavorful without feeling greasy.

What really sets Tempura Matsui apart is its commitment to offering a traditional tempura experience while embracing modern touches. The restaurant’s menu features both classic options and more innovative twists on tempura. You can start with a selection of vegetable tempura, like sweet potato and zucchini, or dive straight into the seafood options, such as shrimp, scallops, and fish. They even offer tempura of the day, so there’s always something new to try. The menu also includes a variety of dipping sauces, from the classic tentsuyu (a soy-based sauce) to citrusy ponzu, giving each bite a different flavor profile.

One of the standout features of this place is the tempura omakase. This set course allows diners to sample a wide variety of tempura, with each course being carefully selected by the chef. The experience is a true showcase of tempura at its finest, with each piece prepared right in front of you. You can watch as the chefs fry each ingredient in hot oil, serving it fresh and crispy just moments after it leaves the fryer. It’s an interactive dining experience that adds to the overall enjoyment of the meal.

Tempura Matsui also excels in providing an upscale atmosphere that doesn’t feel stuffy or pretentious. The restaurant’s design is sleek and modern, with a touch of traditional Japanese elements. The seating arrangement is cozy, allowing you to enjoy your meal while feeling relaxed and comfortable. It’s a perfect setting for a date night, a casual dinner with friends, or even a special family gathering.

What’s more, the service here is top-notch. The staff is attentive, knowledgeable, and passionate about the food they serve. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a regular, they’ll guide you through the menu and recommend dishes that suit your preferences. This attention to detail enhances the overall dining experience and makes you feel valued as a guest.

One of the best things about Tempura Matsui is its dedication to sourcing the best possible ingredients. The seafood is always fresh, the vegetables are seasonal, and the tempura batter is light and crispy, not too heavy. They even import some ingredients directly from Japan, ensuring that each dish is as authentic as it is delicious. The result is a dining experience that feels like you’re eating at a tempura restaurant in Japan, but with the comfort and warmth of New York City.

In addition to its regular menu, Tempura Matsui offers a variety of tempura-related sides and appetizers, such as miso soup and salad, which pair perfectly with the tempura dishes. For dessert, you can try something simple like a refreshing green tea ice cream or tempura ice cream, a fun and unexpected twist on a classic dessert.

If you’re wondering whether it’s worth the visit, rest assured that Tempura Matsui consistently receives rave reviews. Many patrons praise the authenticity of the food and the quality of the tempura, with some even saying it’s the best tempura they’ve ever had outside of Japan. Tempura NYC is an absolute gem! The food is incredibly fresh, crispy, and bursting with flavor. Every bite was perfection, especially the tempura, which was light and perfectly fried. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the staff is exceptionally friendly and attentive. You can really tell they care about quality and service. Whether you’re a tempura lover or just looking for an unforgettable meal, this place is a must-visit. Highly recommended!

YUM all around. The food is very well done, pretty-looking, and delicious. Great Kosher place for fish and pasta dishes. The waiter Gustavomade my friends and I feel at home and taken care of. My favorite was the Poke bowl, with the breaded cauliflower as a topping. Super crispy and yum. The menu is definitely priced for a fancy dinner out, or a celebratory event. Or if you just want to treat yourself! P.S. Also has a great scenic rooftop (in addition to where you eat) - a great place to be proposed or propose at! Enjoy!

We had an event here on the rooftop was so beautiful. My friends made a after wedding party. The bathroom was a 3 floor down walk so if you squeeze your cheeks together you should be on to make it there on time. There is only 2 stalls and 2 urinals. They can definitely use a cleaning. The food was amazing and they make you stop the music at a hard 10pm. Parking wasn't to bad in the area if you are coming after 7pm plenty of street parking.

Their restaurant encourages you to linger and relax. The dishes were nice but not the finest of their kind we've had. You'll appreciate the fresh approach and restrained salt use. Workers here balance fast service with personal attention. I believe in this place and recommend it regularly!
